As
title and picture suggest, this new video will take you on a Mountain
Man Meat Hunt in the heart of the
Rocky Mountains. Armed only with a flintlock rifle, a few kit
necessities and the practiced know-how, Leo Hakola with Richard Ashburn
go after the hard to find Wapiti or elk. This is bull elk season in
Wyoming with changeable weather, tough terrain and a hard to approach
animal.

The awesome wapiti is the goal in our video. This particular bull is past his prime as desirable freezer meat.. TOO TOUGH!. But he is beautiful to look at and will sire many more elk in the mountains this coming year. |

The mountain man's skill in firearms calls for the full knowledge of how to keep his weapon maintained, supplied with ammunition and its safe and accurate use. Leo fires his flintlock named "Makes 'em come" after checking the flint.
|
Richard Ashburn strikes a fire with flint and steel and cooks 'em up.
|
Packing out an entire elk from where ever you got him (Usually in the bottom of a 500 foot valley at least 2 miles from camp) is a strenuous job. But a rack of ribs can refuel you for the next load. |

Many
other food groups of the mountain man will be featured in future Reel
West Pictures videos...up close and personal.
